Amazon Prime Day 2022 and Best Buy’s Black Friday in July sales events are on, with deals on PlayStation games and accessories. Sony’s PlayStation 5 remains one of the hardest products to find in stores but there’s a growing library of hit games readily available for both the PS5 and PS4.

PlayStation games are up to 80% off on Amazon and competing retailers, including Best Buy and GameStop. Some stores are even offering opportunities for lucky shoppers to snag a PS5. Best Buy sold limited PS5 stock to its Totaltech members on July 12.

Below, we rounded up some of the best PlayStation deals so far and we’ll be updating this page with more deals as the sale continues. You’ll find more deals on our Prime Day live blog, too.

Prime Day PlayStation deals FAQs

Will I be able to buy a PlayStation 5 on Prime Day?

PlayStation 5 consoles are currently listed as available by invitation only on Amazon, and we’ve seen Prime members get first access to PS5 orders in the past. The PlayStation 5 is still one of the most highly sought products around, so stock is limited even when it’s not a shopping holiday.

Meanwhile, Best Buy had PS5 consoles in stock for Totaltech members on July 12 at 12 p.m. ET as part of its Black Friday in July sale.

If I buy a PS4 game, can I upgrade it for PS5 later?

Several PlayStation games, like Ghost of Tsushima, have separate PS4 and PS5 versions. If you insert a PS4 disc into a standard PlayStation 5, the console will download the digital PS5 version of the game, if available. Otherwise, the PS5 will install the PS4 version of the game.

Physical PS4 games can’t be upgraded if you have an all-digital PS5. A few games cost less for PS4, like Call of Duty: Vanguard, and will charge you a $10 fee to upgrade to the PS5 version.

Should I buy the standard PlayStation 5 or the all-digital PS5?

Sony makes two versions of the PlayStation 5, the $500 standard version and the $400 all-digital edition. The only difference is that the all-digital version doesn’t have a Blu-ray disc drive, so you won’t be able to purchase physical copies of games or play movies on Blu-ray and DVD.

If you’ve already got a collection of PS4 discs, those will also work on PS5; this can be important if you want to upgrade PS4 games you own to the PS5 version. Used games will occasionally sell for less than digital copies too. That said, the all-digital PS5 is more affordable and is well worth the price if you find it in stock.

What’s the difference between PlayStation Plus Essential, Extra, and Premium?

PlayStation Plus is the service required to access online multiplayer and other features on PlayStation, and Sony recently introduced two new tiers: PlayStation Plus Extra and PlayStation Plus Premium.

The original PlayStation Plus plan is now called PlayStation Plus Essential and retains its price of $10 a month or $60 per year. Essential offers new games for download each month, cloud save storage, special discounts, and a library of games for PS5 owners.

PlayStation Plus Extra adds a downloadable library of more than 400 PS4 and PS5 games, including Sony exclusives like Spider-Man, The Last of Us, and Ghost of Tsushima. The Extra plan costs $15 a month or $100 per year.

PlayStation Plus Premium includes additional streaming access to 340 games dating back from PS1 to PS3 and PSP; titles can be streamed on computers too. Players will also get special trial access to the latest PlayStation releases like Horizon Forbidden West. PlayStation Plus Premium costs $18 a month or $120 per year.
