Scientists found a link between intelligence and health

According to scientists, the owners of high intelligence are also characterized by good health and tendency to longevity. According to MedikForum, the journal Intelligence has published data showing that the level of human intelligence and health are in direct relation with each other. For example, people with high IQ are also usually endowed with excellent health.

Researchers from the University of Vienna analyzed the information obtained during thirteen years of observations of the cognitive, physical and psychological health of 11 thousand people over the age of 50. They came to the conclusion that the higher the IQ of a person, the better his health.

At the same time, they did not identify any behavioral factors that would determine this relationship. According to the researchers, the link between intelligence and health may be genetic in nature, meaning that the same genes can affect health and intelligence.

The pandemic has drawn attention to the mental health problems of people around the world. In France, for example, the number of people suffering from depression doubled in 2020, and a study by the British government found a strong link between rising anxiety levels and the onset of lockdowns in the country. At the same time, amid the pandemic, venture capital funds have significantly increased their investments in mental health startups on the European continent, increasing 4.5 times in one year (from 2019 to 2020).

Venture capital firm Mustard Seed Maze conducted research on the European mental health startup market and mapped it out based on the data it collected.

There are a total of 79 (at the time of the study) such startups in Europe, according to Mustard Seed Maze. They do a variety of things: monitor patients’ sleep quality and use the information to predict depression, organize patient counseling sessions, and even provide virtual reality rooms to enhance the therapeutic effect. Almost half of the companies are based in the United Kingdom. In second place is Germany, with Sweden in third.
