Super Bowl LVI attendees will be receiving free non-fungible tokens as “digital keepsakes” to commemorate the championship game.

Through a partnership with Ticketmaster, fans will receive customized NFT tickets featuring their unique section, row, and seat to gameday on February 13, 2022.

“Collecting ticket stubs has always been something our fans love to do, especially for the season’s biggest game and offering customized Super Bowl NFTs allows us to enhance the gameday experience,” said Bobby Gallo, SVP of club business development at NFL, said in a statement.

He said the NFL will further evaluate the digital asset space for future ticketing and event engagement opportunities.

This isn’t the first time the league is offering virtual commemorative ticket NFTs. Fans have received digital tokens during the regular season, Gallo said, which is what provided the momentum to continue this program throughout the postseason.

The NFL will also release seven historic commemorative NFTs for purchase between February 6 and February 13 designed by a local Southern California artist.

The project is one of a handful recently across pro sports using NFTs to expand the world of collectibles and memorabilia for the most passionate fans. The Cleveland Cavaliers this week announced a “digital locker” NFT experience for attendees of its home games.

Crypto sponsorships are also heating up. Sam Bankman Fried revealed in October 2020 that his exchange FTX purchased an ad for the Super Bowl, and Canadian crypto exchange BitBuy also booked a commercial during the big game with Miami Heat guard Kyle Lowry.

Super Bowl LVI will be played between the National Football Conference champions the Los Angeles Rams and the American Football Conference champions the Cincinnati Bengals.

The annual championship game is a massive television event most years, with the 2021 game pulling in 91 million viewers.
