- If your iPhone is stuck on the Apple logo screen, there are several ways you can troubleshoot and solve this problem.
- Make sure your phone is properly charged and, if connected to a computer, replace the USB cable.
- You can also try to force restart your iPhone, use recovery mode or DFU mode, and perform a factory reset.
It’s rare for an iPhone to have a serious issue starting up, but it can happen. For example, you might be trying to restore an iPhone from a backup or migrate data from a different iOS device, and your iPhone inexplicably gets stuck on the Apple logo. Or perhaps you simply turned the phone off and it remains on the Apple logo when you turn it back on. If you can’t seem to get off the Apple logo, here are eight ways to troubleshoot and solve your iPhone problem.
Make sure your phone is charged
While it’s not likely to resolve the problem, this troubleshooting step has a chance of getting your phone past the logo screen and it buys you additional time to see if the iPhone will eventually leave the logo screen on its own without additional steps. Simply make sure your iPhone is sufficiently charged: Plug the phone into a charger and leave it there for an hour or two to make sure the phone has enough power to complete the boot process.

Swap out your USB cable
If your iPhone is stuck on the Apple logo while connected to a computer via USB (such as to sync with iTunes, for example), the USB cable could be damaged or malfunctioning. Replace the cable and change the USB port you are using as well.
The best charging cables
Amazon
Charging cords aren’t the most durable of iPhone accessories. If you’re having trouble with your current cable, here are some of the best ones we’ve tested and recommended:
- Best overall: Anker PowerLine+ II, $19.99 on Amazon
- Best long charging cable: Native Union Night Cable, $39.99 on Amazon
- Best universal charging cable: Anker PowerLine II 3-in-1 Cable, $21.99 on Amazon
Force restart your iPhone
If your phone is stuck on the Apple logo screen, forcing it to restart can flush out bad data and give the phone a second chance to restart normally. For most iPhone models, press Volume Up, Volume Down, and then Power, but for additional guidance, here is how to force restart any iPhone model.

Use recovery mode
If you were trying to update your operating system and something went wrong, at this point you might need to use the iPhone’s recovery tool. Connect your iPhone to your computer using a USB connection cable. Then, depending on which model iPhone you have, do one of the following:
- iPhone 8 or later. Press the Volume Up button. Press the Volume Down button. Press and hold the Power button until you see the recovery mode screen.
- iPhone 7 family. Press and hold both the Volume Down and the Power buttons. Keep holding the buttons until you see the recovery mode screen.
- iPhone 6s or older. Press and hold the Home and Power buttons. Keep holding them until you see the recovery mode screen.
Open iTunes and, when asked to update or restore, choose Update. This will update your iPhone to the latest version of iOS. If it fails to solve the problem, repeat the process and choose Restore, which will wipe your iPhone and delete all your personal apps and data.
Reset your phone with DFU mode
You might be able to resolve the issue with the iPhone’s Device Firmware Update (DFU) mode. Because this changes aspects of your iPhone’s software at a very low level, below the operating system, it’s inherently risky, so you might want to save this as a last resort. Here is everything you need to know to try your iPhone’s DFU mode.
Try a third-party repair tool
Another alternative is to use a third-party repair program. iMyFone Fixppo is an iOS system recovery app that can fix some very vexing iPhone problems. You install it on your Mac or Windows computer and the app connects to your iPhone via USB. To use Fixppo, you need to subscribe to a plan, which starts at $30 for a month of service.

Perform a factory reset
If none of these troubleshooting steps have worked, you might want to perform a factory reset. Similar to choosing the Restore option when using the recovery mode, performing a factory reset wipes all the apps and data from your phone and restores it back to factory conditions.
Use Apple’s customer support
At this point, you’ve exhausted all the DIY troubleshooting options at your disposal. If your iPhone remains firmly stuck on the Apple logo, you should reach out to Apple customer service to see if your phone can be repaired or replaced.
