- Live Caption is a new feature in Chrome that automatically generates captions from the audio playing in a video.
If you need help understanding the audio portion of videos that play in your browser — or you simply want to play video with the audio muted — then you may appreciate Google Chrome’s Live Caption feature.
Live Caption automatically transcribes audio playing in a video and displays it as subtitles in a window that pops up in your browser. This feature is optional, however, and it’s easy to turn on or off from Chrome’s Settings page with just a click.
