How to connect AirPods to your Apple TV

From tablets and smartphones to Apple TV, streaming your favorite TV show has never been easier. But at times, you may need to stream quietly. 

Whether you’re doing chores around the house and want to keep listening to The Office with the volume on high or watching Bridgerton late into the night when the rest of the house is asleep, connecting your AirPods to your Apple TV can come in handy.

How to connect Apple AirPods to Apple TV through Bluetooth settings

  1. Put your AirPods in their case to ensure they’re not currently paired with another device.
  2. Open the Settings app on Apple TV.
  3. Select Remotes and Devices, then Bluetooth.
  4. Flip open your AirPods case, then press the button on the back until the light blinks white.
  5. Select your AirPods from the Other Devices list.

How to connect AirPods and Apple TV through iCloud

As mentioned in the last section, your Apple AirPods should automatically connect to your Apple TV if they’re associated with the same Apple ID. To do this, enter your Apple ID when you set up your Apple TV. 

When you’re ready to connect your AirPods, follow these steps:

  1. Flip open your AirPods case.
  2. Turn on your Apple TV, then navigate to the Home screen.
  3. On your Apple TV remote, hold down the play/pause button.
  4. Select your AirPods.

How to reconnect AirPods to Apple TV through audio settings

  1. Open the Settings app on Apple TV.
  2. Select Video and Audio, then Audio Output.
  3. Select Temporary Audio Output.
  4. Flip open your AirPods case, then select your AirPods from the device list.
